Nigel Clough's Derby County boosted their attacking options yesterday with the capture of young Sunderland striker Ryan Noble on a one-month loan.

The move is 20-year-old Noble's third short-term switch, and indeed the second spell at Pride Park during his career.

Martin O'Neill has decided that Noble should gain vital senior experience in England's second tier, following a string of fledgling appearances from the Black Cats bench over the past three seasons.

Rams boss Clough said: "Ryan will provide another option for us up front and he's coming into a squad brimming with confidence."

Noble has forged quite a reputation for goalscoring at reserve level, hitting four against Manchester United, a hat-trick against Scunthorpe and a goal against Arsenal within the last month.

The striker will be hoping for a more fruitful second stint at Derby, following his first loan switch at the beginning of last season. He managed just 25 minutes in an away fixture at Swansea City last time out in the Midlands.
