Tottenham have declared an interest in signing Villarreal striker Nilmar, but have baulked at the £20million price tag reports talkSPORT.

The 27-year-old Brazilian international has struggled with a succession of injuries this season, meaning he has been able to do little to help his team improve their poor standing in La Liga.

After undergoing knee surgery back in November, Nilmar is looking for regular first-team action in order to rediscover his best form, and is believed to be open to a move away from Spain.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is looking to add a striker to his ranks at White Hart Lane in January, in order to maintain the club's challenge at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

However, Tottenham deem the valuation of the former Lyon striker as inflated, and are only prepared to bring Nilmar to north London on loan.

Redknapp currently has Emmanuel Adebayor, Jermain Defoe, Rafael Van der Vaart and Roman Pavlyuchenko to call on, and despite the competition for places up front, the Spurs chief is always looking to improve his squad.
