Any possibility of Mario Gotze leaving Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window appears to have vanished after the German midfielder was ruled out for up to two months with a hip injury.

The 19-year-old has frequently been linked with a move away from the Westfalenstadion, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid all touted as potential destinations.

However, any potential approach for Gotze will now have to wait until the summer, with inflammation of his hip cartilage meaning six to eight weeks out of action.

According to the official Dortmund website, the Germany international will not train for two weeks and, after he has completed this period of rest, will undertake a personalised training plan in order to ease him back to full fitness.

Gotze has scored five times in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season, with Dortmund currently level on points with league leaders Bayern Munich, who have a superior goal difference.
