Toon join Prem chase for Zaha

Newcastle United are the latest club to be linked with a move for Crystal Palace sensation Wilfried Zaha, according to reports in the north East.

The Northern Echo is reporting that Alan Pardew has flown back from the club's Tenerife training camp to monitor a number of transfer options ahead of the weekend FA Cup fourth round clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.

And, with just days now left in the January window, England U19 international Zaha is one of the players who is said to be in the mind of the former West Ham United chief.

Toon scouts have watched the teenager on a number of occasions this month, and whilst he signed a new five-and-a-half year deal at Selhurst Park in December, it hasn't stopped speculation over a move away from south east London.

The report also claims an £8 million price-tag has been placed on Zaha's head, whilst Manchester United and Liverpool are also in the mix with regards to a move for the versatile winger, who can also play up-front this month.

Dougie Freedman confirmed that both Kenny Dalglish and Sir Alex Ferguson have shown an interest in the player earlier in the month, but Palace are not interested in selling their prized asset.

"I’ve had chit-chats with Kenny Dalglish and Alex Ferguson, but he is not going anywhere," said the Palace boss less than a fortnight ago.
