Tottenham are planning a deadline day bid for Werder Bremen midfielder and former Liverpool target Marko Marin according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 22-year-old German international's proposed move to White Hart Lane will depend on the departure of a number of fringe players prior to the transfer window slamming shut tonight.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a known admirer of Marin, whose versatility means he can play either as a creative midfielder, behind the striker or as a right-winger.

However, Tottenham will likely face competition for the £10million-rated star's signature from a host of Barclays Premier League clubs should Werder Bremen agree to a sale.

The Telegraph reports that Liverpool have been monitoring Marin ever since the 2010 World Cup, and with his contract set to expire next year the Bundesliga outfit may be forced into a sale.

It is unclear whether Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is keen on bringing him to Anfield, but after Redknapp recently suggested that Tottenham are unlikely to be involved in any late buying in the January market, Liverpool could be ready to pounce.
