Arsenal are planning to make a move for combative Argentinian midfielder Claudio Yacob.
talkSPORT are reporting that Arsene Wenger has earmarked the Racing Club captain for a cut-price move to Emirates Stadium.
Yacob is out of contract at the end of the season but the report suggests his club may be willing to release him early to get him off the wage bill, paving the way for a move to the Gunners.
Wenger has had a number of midfield problems recently, with Mikel Arteta being added to the long-term injuries suffered by Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby.
The need to bolster Arsenal’s midfield could have grown even more with recent reports suggesting Wilshere may now be missing until the end of the season.
Yacob was a regular in the Argentina team that won the Under-20 World Cup in 2007 but he could not translate this success to the senior squad and has made just two appearances.
The 24-year-old has been likened with Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano and the report claims he possesses an Italian passport, so does not have to worry about attaining a work permit.
