Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal have enough quality in their squad to see off the challenge of Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has put the club's recent slump down to 'small details' that are costing them games, and has warned his teammates it's now time to deliver.

The Gunners are on a wretched run of form, with three consecutive league defeats prior to their midweek goalless draw with relegation threatened Bolton Wanderers. With Blackburn Rovers set to arrive at the Emirates Stadium this weekend, Arteta wants to get back to winning ways immediately.

"It is going to be tough to finish in the top four but it depends on us," he told Arsenal Player. "We have got the talent and the quality in the side to do it but we have to show it day by day.

"I am confident because we train together every day and I know how good we are but we have to show it every day, not every two or three weeks.

"It is more about details to score and make the game much easier for us. It depends on small details."

Arsene Wenger has again come into criticism for his reluctance to spend in the January transfer window, instead choosing to keep faith in the players already at his disposal.

A succession of injuries, particularly in defence, has left Arsenal threadbare at times this season, but the manager and players refuse to use that as an excuse for their poor form.

Arteta cut a frustrated figure as he left the Reebok Stadium on Wednesday, with the Gunners guilty of missing a number of clear-cut chances, meaning it was very much a case of two points dropped against the Trotters.

"We had the chances to score and we didn't," he continued. "You are not going to get 15 chances to win a football game and nowadays when you get it, especially away from home, you have to take it.

"I am sure that Chelsea will start a good run and we have to do the same and win games like we did a month ago. But I am still positive – there are still a lot of games to play and hopefully we can get that done."
