Papiss Demba Cisse paid off the first instalment of his transfer fee as he fired Newcastle to a 2-1 Barclays Premier League victory over Aston Villa.

The Senegal international, who cost the Magpies around £10million, marked his debut with a superb 71st-minute strike to ease the Magpies back into fifth place in the table.

International team-mate Demba Ba had earlier given the home side a 30th-minute lead with his 16th goal of the season, but Robbie Keane dragged the visitors back into the game deep into injury-time at the end of the first half.
