Manchester United are in a race with Juventus and CSKA Moscow for the signing of Basel youngster Granit Xhaka, according to talkSPORT.

United have been strongly linked with Xhaka in the past, following impressive performances against the Premier League champions during last year's Champions League group stage.

The 19-year-old is likely to make a big money move in the summer, with United along with CSKA and Juve among the interested parties.

Swiss reports suggest a fee of £8 million was being negotiated between Basel and CSKA, with Juve also circling.

Basel will hope to fend off any interest in Xhaka until the summer.

United recently missed out on bringing Xherdan Shaqiri to the club, with the Switzerland international moving to Bayern Munich.

The Old Trafford had a quiet January transfer window, re-signing Paul Scholes and Frederic Veseli from Manchester City.

Victory over Liverpool during the weekend keeps United a point behind leaders Manchester City, after their own win over Aston Villa.
