Manchester United will reportedly formalise their interest in Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan during the summer transfer window.

Gaitan has been one of the star turns for Benfica this season, and has been instrumental in guiding Jorge Jesus' side to the top of the Primeira Liga.

Manchester United have been frequently linked with the 23-year-old Argentina international in recent months and, it would appear, he may be able to call Old Trafford home in the summer.

According to talkSPORT, Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to make his move for Gaitan at the end of the season after Benfica refused to sell during the January transfer window.

Gaitan impressed the United boss during a Champions League encounter between the two sides at the Estadio da Luz earlier this term, in which the spoils were shared.

Oscar Cardozo opened the scoring for Benfica, before Ryan Giggs secured United a point with a stunning strike.
