Bayern Munich have identified reported Arsenal target Olivier Giroud as a possible summer acquisition, a club scout has confirmed.
Giroud has been the star performer for Montpellier this season as René Girard's side trail Paris Saint-Germain by one point in pursuit of a first Ligue 1 title since 1987.
The 25-year-old striker has netted 16 goals in 22 appearances this term; potent form which has seen him frequently linked with a move away from the Stade de la Mosson.
Arsenal have reportedly been monitoring Giroud as Arsene Wenger considers possible replacements for Gunners captain Robin van Persie.
However, should Arsenal attempt to formalise their interest in Giroud, they will seemingly face competition from Bayern, who also want Manchester City youngster John Guidetti.
"At the moment, we are watching Guidetti and a striker from Montpellier, Giroud," Bayern scout Bjorn Andersson told Aftonbladet.
Should Arsenal or Bayern make an approach for Giroud, then they will reportedly have to pay €16 million to release him from his contract with Montpellier.
