Arsenal & United ready Spanish midfielder bids

Arsenal and Manchester United target Javi Garcia is being chased by two Premier League clubs, according to his agent.

A report from talkSPORT also suggests that both Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are ready to increase efforts to sign the Spaniard.

The Old Trafford and Emirates Stadium clubs will also have to fight off interest from Italy and Germany if they want to land the defensive midfielder from Portuguese side Benfica.

“There have been no concrete offers, but he is being followed by two clubs in the Premier League,” agent Manuel Garcia Quilon is quoted as saying on talkSPORT.

“There is also one Italian and German club. But the player is focused on doing his best for Benfica and wants to win trophies.”

Garcia has been getting praise for his performances at the base of the Benfica midfield this season.

The Lisbon based side are currently unbeaten in the Primeira Liga in Portugal and top the table ahead of second placed Porto.

Sir Alex Ferguson will have seen first hand the effect Garcia can have, as he was part of the side that helped oust United from the Champions League at the group stages.

Garcia joined the Portuguese side in 2009 after being told he was surplus to requirements at Real Madrid.

If he were to join United he would line up next to compatriot David de Gea.
