Jordi Alba is in talks with Valencia over extending his stay at the Mestalla, despite reported interest in his signature from Manchester United and Barcelona.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough 12 months with Los Che and has been rewarded for his exploits in recent months with a place in Vicente del Bosque's senior Spain squad.

Alba continues to impress this season, and the full-back's performances for both club and country appear to have caught the attention of some of Europe's most high-profile clubs.

Valencia, however, are determined to keep hold of Alba, having seen other prized assets David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata sold in recent seasons.

According to talkSPORT, the Spanish side have are attempting to negotiate an improved deal with Alba, in the hope of keeping him out of the clutches of Manchester United and Barcelona.

Should Sir Alex Ferguson launch a move for Alba, then he is likely to come to Old Trafford as a long-term successor of current left-back Patrice Evra.
