Manchester United secured a comfortable win at the Amsterdam Arena last night, putting them in a strong position ahead of the second leg against Ajax next week.

The victory was bittersweet for Sir Alex Ferguson, who confirmed Antonio Valencia sustained a hamstring injury and will be out of action for a month.

Manchester City were also victorious in Europe last night, coming back from a goal down with Sergio Aguero grabbing the winning strike late in the game.

But the win was marred by alleged racial abuse suffered by Yaya Toure and Mario Balotelli, with City set to make an official complaint to UEFA.

Elsewhere, Tony Pulis was proud of his side despite a defeat that leaves them facing a mountain to climb if they are to reach to Europa League last 16.
