United & Chelsea tracking Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is being linked with a shock return to England in the summer transfer window.

Reports in Spain claim that the talented centre back has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp, with Pep Guardiola dropping the 37-cap international for the clash against Bayer Leverkusen in midweek after a dip in form for the European champions.

The Metro cites El Economista in claiming that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is now interested in bringing the 25-year-old back to Old Trafford, with Pique spending four relatively unsuccessful years with the Premier League champions between 2004 and 2008.

However, the same report claims Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has also taken a keen interest in the player, and could look to add the former Real Zaragoza loanee at the end of the season.

Pique has been instrumental in Barca’s rise to prominence both domestically and throughout Europe over recent years, but with the Spanish giants now 10-points behind Real Madrid in the title race, it might be time to consider a change at the Nou Camp.
