Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona’s midfield starlet Cristian Tello, according to The Daily Mail.

The Spain Under-20 international has begun to make a breakthrough at the Nou Camp, but it now appears Kenny Dalglish is interested in bringing him to Anfield.

Liverpool have adopted a policy of signing promising young players since John W Henry’s takeover of the club and Tello would seem to fit the bill.

The 20-year-old was promoted by the Catalans’ manager Pep Guardiola from the Barcelona B squad this year and has shown promise during his early first team outings.

Guardiola has been slowly integrating the young winger – who can also play as a forward – into his team over the past few weeks.

Tello made his La Liga debut when he came on against Villareal just under a month ago and his first league start three weeks ago in the victory over Real Sociedad, scoring the opening goal inside the first ten minutes.

His contract is set to expire at the end of next season and Barca will be keen for him to sign an extension, as clubs like Liverpool will be ready to lure Tello with contract offers.

If he refuses to sign a new deal, the Spainish champions may be forced to sell for a reduced price rather than lose him for free in the summer of 2013.
