Liverpool scouts are set to run the rule over Swiss international starlet Granit Xhaka for a second time this week, after Damien Comolli received a glowing report on the player’s ability.

The FC Basel midfielder has been linked with a host of top clubs in the past, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United all credited with an interest at some stage in the recent past.

Indeed, Basel director Georg Heitz admitted in January that the Red Devils were one of a number of clubs keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.

“I do not like naming names, I can only say there's many clubs who follow him, not just Manchester United,” he said.

However, reports in The Metro now claim that Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is in the frame to land the talented teenager, with members of the club’s scouting group set to watch the player represent his country against Argentina this week.

The left-sided, box-to-box midfielder enjoyed a trial period with Hamburg in January, with the Bundesliga side willing to pay £5 million in an effort to lure the player away from St. Jakob-Park.

However, the interest from England will only add to the player’s valuation, and with his exit from the Swiss Super League champions expected this summer, the race is on for one of the Premier League’s original ‘big four’ to take advantage.
