Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes this weekend’s clash against Manchester United provides the players with a perfect chance to respond after last Sunday’s North London derby defeat.
Harry Redknapp’s side were beaten 5-2 at the Emirates Stadium despite taking a two-goal lead, with strikes from Louis Saha and Adebayor cancelled out during a classic encounter.
The visit of the English league champions could potentially be a daunting challenge after the heavy defeat to their biggest rivals, but on-loan Adebayor believes it’s just what the team need to bounce-back at their best.
“It will be tough but we’re ready for it, looking forward to it and we have to show our character and personality to bounce back as quickly as possible,” Adebayor told the official Spurs website.
“Arsenal was a tough one to take, the defeat is hard but we’re footballers, we have to stay focused and we’re now back at home against United, especially in front of our fans we have to show character and try to win that game.”
Adebayor has 11 league goals for Harry Redknapp’s side this season, and would be doing parent-club Manchester City a huge favour in the title race if he could add to his tally in a win against the Red Devils.
A win would breathe life back into Spurs’ own title aspirations of course, although the ten-point gap to the top of the table suggests the side are destined for a third-place finish this season.
