Arsenal could sign transfer target Lukas Podolski for as little as £8.5million due to a clause in the player’s contract.
Arsene Wenger has been linked with a move for the Germany international for some time and the clause could make a move a lot cheaper than the initial £16million mooted, according to Goal.com.
Podolski’s club Cologne would be forced to accept the lower bid from the Emirates Stadium outfit they were relegated from the Bundesliga this year.
While they are currently out of the relegation zone, they have not been in the best form and three straight losses have seen them drop to just four points above the bottom three teams.
This has been in spite of Podolski’s 15 goals in 19 games so far this season and it is this poor form that has led him to become frustrated with the situation at his hometown club.
If Podolski were to make the move to Arsenal, he would join compatriots Per Mertesacker and Tomas Eisfeld.
