Chelsea and Manchester United are both reported to be pursuing Benfica midfielder Axel Witsel, who is also attracting interest from Manchester City.
The 23-year-old has yet to complete an entire season at the Estadio da Luz, having only signed for Benfica from Standard Liege last summer.
Witsel, however, has been extremely impressive during Benfica's progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League, while his performances for Belgium have not gone unnoticed.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are all monitoring Witsel and may have to offer around £17.5 million in order to interest Benfica in considering a prospective sale.
Witsel, it would appear, is under consideration from Sir Alex Ferguson as he makes plans to reinforce his midfield during the summer transfer window.
The United boss failed to do so following the retirement of Paul Scholes last year, and Ferguson even had to persuade the 37-year-old to reverse his decision in January.
But Ferguson will surely bolster his midfield ranks at the end of the season, especially after witnessing his current crop being dominated on several occasions this term.
