Arsenal are set to follow up the signing of Lukas Podolski by completing a deal for highly-rated German midfielder Mario Gotze, it has been claimed.
The 19-year-old is recognised as one of the finest young players in European football and, it would appear, his long-term future will be away from Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal have been frequently linked with the Germany international over recent months, and it would now appear Arsene Wenger is ready to formalise his interest.
According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners will make Gotze their second buy of the summer by bringing the teenager to the Emirates Stadium in a deal worth £25 million.
Should this prove to be true, Arsenal would smash the club record £15 million spent to sign Andrey Arshavin during the January transfer window of 2009.
The acquisition of Gotze would be quite coup indeed for Wenger - especially if Arsenal manage to secure his services prior to this summer's European Championships.
Gotze is likely to play a prominent role for Germany at Euro 2012, provided he recovers sufficiently from a groin injury that has ruled him out for two months.
