Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez is set to make his long-awaited comeback for Manchester City in their Premier League encounter against Chelsea.

The Argentine international has played two reserve games since returning to training as he works his way back to full fitness, and the 28-year-old poacher grabbed a goal against Bolton in City's Senior Cup clash last week. Roberto Mancini is believed to be considering using the striker against Roberto Di Matteo's Chelsea next weekend.

Mancini's men have struggled for goals in recent games, failing to find the net against Swansea and Sporting Lisbon. The second leg of their Europa League tie this Thursday is thought to be too soon for Tevez, but their next home game, against Chelsea on March 21, could be an ideal time to reintroduce the former captain to the City fans.

Speaking after the disappointment of the 1-0 defeat to Swansea, Mancini hinted that a Tevez comeback was not to far off: "Carlos needs to train again, maybe another 10 days. I don't think that Carlos can play the first game and be 100 per cent after five months. This is impossible."

However, he added that "he could help us in the last two months." A comeback for City would complete quite a turnaround for Tevez's career on the blue side of Manchester. After refusing to leave the substitutes bench against Bayern Munich, the want-away striker fled to Argentina without permission from the club.

His subsequent fallout with Mancini led to a five-month exile from football, during which time he failed to train at all. However, he resumed training in February and a return to the first-team could not be better timed for both parties as City desperately need the firepower to recover lost ground in the title race.

Defeat to Swansea at the weekend meant that City surrendered top spot in the Premier League to Manchester United with only 10 games to go.
