United consider £10m Asamoah swoop

Manchester United are planning a summer swoop for Udinese midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah, according to reports in Italy.

TalkSPORT has revealed claims from Corriere Dello Sport that the 23-year-old Ghanaian international is high on the reigning Premier League champions' list of transfer targets.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to bolster his midfield department at the end of the campaign, and having been regularly linked with big-money moves for the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Luka Modric, he is now believed to have turned his attention to Asamoah.

The Serie A starlet is under contract at Stadio Friuli until 2015, but will be available for around £10million. That value-for-money figure has also reportedly attracted interest from Italian giants Juventus, who could rival Manchester United for his signature.

With one goal in 19 league appearances this season, Asamoah is by no means a goalscoring midfielder, but his versatility could prove to be a valuable asset should he sign on at Old Trafford.

Having recently tempted Paul Scholes out of retirement, as well as tying United veteran Ryan Giggs to another one-year contract extension - Ferguson knows that his old guard cannot carry on forever - and will begin building towards the long-term future.
