Hamburg sporting director Frank Arnesen is hoping to take young Chelsea pair Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois to the Bundesliga next season, according to reports.

The Daily Express claims that Arnesen, who held the sporting director position in west London before moving to Germany last February, is keen to add the duo to a growing list of players who have switched from Stamford Bridge to the Imtech Arena.

Michael Mancienne and Slobodan Rajkovic were two high-profile players to make the permanent move, whilst Dutch international Jeffrey Bruma is enjoying a season on loan under Thorsten Fink.

Arnesen is hoping Lukaku and Courtois could follow in Bruma’s footsteps with a season-long loan with the Rothosen, with neither player in the first team picture at present under Roberto Di Matteo.

Courtois is making a big name for himself at Athletico Madrid this season, whilst Lukaku has been on the senior fringes at Chelsea with a number of substitute appearances.

“Lukaku is a great talent, but everything indicates that Chelsea want him at the club next year,” Arnesen is quoted as saying in the newspaper.

With Kevin De Bruyne set to join his two Belgian compatriots at Chelsea in the summer, Arnesen could again return to the capital looking to negotiate short-term moves.
