The Emirates Stadium favourite has scored 26 goals in the league for the Gunners this season, whereas the England striker has netted 20 for the Old Trafford club and Aguero is currently trailing behind them both with 16, though he still got a mention from the world’s best player.
“There are several quality players in the Premier League like Kun Aguero, who is my friend. I really like how he plays,” he is quoted as saying by the BBC.
“Rooney [and] Van Persie are playing really well - they are great players.”
Arsene Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini will be pleased to hear their players have been praised by someone who is considered the greatest player ever by many.
Messi’s record is astonishing this season as he has scored 50 goals in just 44 games in all competitions – the highlight being his five-goal haul in the 7-1 mauling of Bayer Leverkusen last week in their Champions League last-16 second leg.
However, the Argentina international was not so forthcoming when questioned over who the best player he had played with was – choosing to name check a number of world football’s best players.
“I have been lucky to always have really good team-mates," the 24-year-old added.
I was to lucky to play with Ronaldinho, with Deco, with Eto'o, and nowadays with Xavi, Iniesta [and] Cesc [Fabregas]. It is very difficult to pick one.
“All those players are spectacular and I was lucky to play with them, to experience that, to train with them, play with them - it was wonderful.”
