West Brom head coach Roy Hodgson has ruled leading scorer Peter Odemwingie out of Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash at relegation-threatened Wigan because of a calf problem.

The Nigerian international has been back to his best in recent weeks despite having to play in a wide right role, scoring five of his 10 goals this season in the space of two games against Wolves and Sunderland. But Odemwingie was struggling with the injury before last weekend's clash at Manchester United - even though he played - and will not be ready to face the Latics.

Hodgson said: "Peter Odemwingie is a doubt for the Wigan game. It's a calf strain. In fact, I wouldn't think he will make the game. Peter was complaining about the problem a bit before the United game last week and when we came off afterwards. But it opens the door for a few people."
