Manchester United are reportedly considering offering Tottenham the opportunity to resign Dimitar Berbatov this summer, in exchange for Luka Modric.
Berbatov's contract with United expires at the end of the season, and the club are expected to allow him to leave Manchester in the summer.
Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed as much last week, although United are loath to let the 31-year-old leave Old Trafford on a free transfer, so will activate a clause in his contract that extends his deal for another year.
This, according to Goal.com, will not prevent Berbatov from quitting the club in the summer, but will instead allow them to command a fee for the Bulgarian.
United reportedly believe they will be able to command £6-8 million for Berbatov, and hope to use him as a makeweight in order to sign £40 million-rated Modric from Spurs.
The Premier League champions have been frequently linked with the Croatian midfielder as Ferguson seemingly makes plans for the second retirement of Paul Scholes.
