Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready lure Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge with a £40million contract offer – after tax.

The Blues' billionaire bankroller is desperate to land the Barcelona boss and is willing to offer him £10million a year over the four-year deal, according to The Sun.

Guardiola’s current deal at the Catalan club runs out at the end of the season and he has not signed an extension, something that Abramovich is reportedly willing to exploit.

The former Brescia midfielder is reportedly taking home a salary in the region of £8million a year net, so this reported Chelsea offer would increase his wages a significant amount.

Guardiola currently has a policy of only signing one-year deals at the end of every season, which has caused uncertainty over whether he will sign on again if an offer such as the one reportedly being readied by Chelsea.

Barca’s star player Lionel Messi is desperate for the coach to stay and even went so far as to suggest the former Nou Camp captain was more important to the club than the world’s best player.

“Pep is more important to Barcelona than me,” Messi said in an interview earlier this month.

“Since he arrived he has changed everything for us. He has won everything there is to win.”
