Chelsea open talks over Cavani

Published Add your comment

Chelsea appear to have stolen a march in the race to sign highly-rated Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports in the British press.

The Sun newspaper claims representatives of the player were in London on Friday, with discussions taking place between the two parties over a potential £30 million move for the 25-year-old forward.

With 26 goals to his name this season, Cavani has been earning rave reviews in Italy, but was unable to fire his side to victory against Chelsea in the Champions League last 16 clash at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago.

The report goes on to cite Italian sources in claiming that the Serie ‘A’ outfit could look to cash-in on the player this summer, although Liverpool are also credited with an interest in the paper.

Cavani would be the perfect foil for compatriot Luis Suarez, but his arrival at Anfield would only coincide with the sale of striker Andrew Carroll, according to the report.

Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the player, whilst Manchester City have also been credited with an interest – but would need to sell players first.
