Manchester United have been put on alert after Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put contract talks on hold.
The Mirror are reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson is one of those interested in the prolific Dutchman and could be tempted to test the Bundesliga side’s resolve.
Huntelaar has decided to halt contract talks until after Euro 2012, which could put his price up with a good performance and Schalke have reportedly already offered him a huge pay increase.
The former Real Madrid and AC Milan striker’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2013 and the Old Trafford club may look to exploit the situation with a summer bid.
Ferguson will be looking for another striker at the end of the season, after it emerged that Dimitar Berbatov would be allowed to leave the Red Devils following a frustrating couple of season’ where the Bulgarian only played a bit-part in the club’s success – despite being their top scorer.
Huntelaar is having a sensational season and his brace against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend took his tally for the season to 40 in 39 games.
