Arsenal are reportedly battling Newcastle United for the signing of Southampton starlet Calum Chambers.

The Sun is reporting that Arsene Wenger’s club are interested in bringing the talented midfielder to Emirates Stadium, but will have to fight off other interested parties Newcastle United and Fulham.

The Gunners will be hoping their track record in developing young talent will prove the difference in the chase for the latest product of the famed Southampton academy.

The 17-year-old will have done little to stifle speculation over his future with an impressive display against Ukraine for England Under-17s today, where scored the only goal of a 1-0 win.

It would not be the first time the north London club have raided the Saints youth ranks - Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were both part of the academy when Arsenal bought them.

Gareth Bale is another prominent graduate of what is becoming a fabled youth system on the south coast, so it will come as no surprise to hear they have produced another player attracting interest from Premier League clubs.
