Arsenal planning £7m move for Vertonghen

Arsenal are preparing to make an early move for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen, it has been claimed.

It would appear Vertonghen's time at the Amsterdam Arena may be edging towards its conclusion, with Tottenham also reportedly interested in signing him this summer.

Arsenal though are preparing to beat their north London rivals to the 25-year-old Belgian's signature as Arsene Wenger makes early plans for the summer transfer window.

According to The Mirror, the Arsenal boss has already made an initial move for Vertonghen, and hopes to tie up a deal worth £7 million.

Vertonghen is out of of contract with Ajax at the end of next season, and the Eredivisie giants will surely be tempted to cash-in on the Belgium international if he decides against signing a new deal.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have already completed the signing of Cologne striker Lukas Podolski, although neither club have yet to officially confirm the transfer.
