Liverpool defender Jose Enrique believes teammate Martin Skrtel has surpassed Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany in terms of defensive ability.
The City skipper is regarded as the best defender in the Premier League, spearheading Roberto Mancini's side in their title challenge.
However, while Kompany's injury problems have seen him play just 23 league games this term, Skrtel, who played every minute of every domestic game last season, had missed just two.
"You cannot say that any striker has made a game difficult for him this season," the left-back told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"Against many different strikers this season he has had an amazing game. He is doing really, really well for us.
"He has everything. He's good in the air, he's a strong player, he's quick, he's good with the ball.
"For me, I wouldn't swap him for any centre-back in the Premier League. I know Kompany is a good centre-back too but I prefer Martin."
The 27-year-old moved from Zenit St. Petersburg to Anfield in 2008, has already clocked up over 100 appearance for the Reds and displaced club stalwart Jamie Carragher at the centre of defence.
Skrtel's partnership with Daniel Agger has helped the club towards 11 clean sheets in the league this season, and a Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff City, which saw the Slovakian hit Liverpool's crucial equaliser.
The club's impressive defensive record was surpassed this season by City and subsequently Manchester United though, who lead the way with 14 shut outs.
