Branislav Ivanovic scored twice as Chelsea’s pursuit of the Premier League’s top four continued with victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Trailing Tottenham Hotspur by five points going into the final eight games of the season, The Blues got off to the ideal start with Daniel Sturridge netting the opener after nine minutes.
Ivanovic then capitalised on Villa’s inability to clear a corner, as he fired home to double the visitors’ lead.
Chelsea’s hopes of cruising to victory were ended within three minutes in the second half as Eric Lichaj’s long throw found James Collins’s head, before the full back slotted home after Marc Albrighton’s cross.
However, more sloppy defending from Villa saw them ruin all their good work when Ivanovic netted from close range again.
And Torres put the icing on the cake late on as Sturridge fed the Spaniard, who ended his six month goal drought in the Premier League with a cool finish as Roberto Di Matteo’s side went within two points of Spurs.
