Arsenal look set to complete the capture of Lukas Podolski from Cologne in the coming weeks, despite the reported interest in his signature from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old is enjoying his most potent season ever in the Bundesliga, so it comes as no surprise that Podolski has been attracting admiring glances from the Premier League.

Arsenal have been linked with Podolski for some time, and appeared to have agreed a fee for the German striker a number of weeks ago.

According to The Sun, the £11 million deal will be confirmed soon, with Arsenal having managed to hold off interest from Manchester United .

Podolski, it is claimed, favoured a move to the Emirates Stadium rather than Old Trafford thanks to the persuasiveness of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

The potential to play more frequently with Arsenal rather than United will also surely have had an impact on Podolski's decision, with the latter already boasting a wealth of goalscoring options.

Sir Alex Ferguson already has the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez at his disposal, while Arsenal are far more in need of reinforcements in that area.
