Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will have to break the Gunners’ transfer record if they want to sign Yann M’Vila.

The Telegraph are reporting that the Emirates Stadium boss is very interested in the combative midfielder, but his club Stade Rennes will not let him leave for anything less than £17million.

The France international was reportedly given assurances last summer that he would be allowed to leave the Ligue 1 side this year, should a suitable offer be made for him.

Wenger will likely have to compete with Real Madrid and Inter Milan for his signing, according to the report, but M’Vila admitted this week that the chance to work under a French coach like the Arsenal tactician would be difficult to turn down.

The Gunners’ current transfer record is £15million, which they paid Zenit St Petersburg in 2009 when they signed Russian international Andrey Arshavin.

The report suggests that Wenger has made a new holding midfield player as one of his main targets for the club’s transfer dealings this summer.
