Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are all preparing bids for Crewe Alexandra starlet Nick Powell, according to Goal.com.
Another product of the Alex production line, Powell is an England Under-18 international and has netted 12 goals in 37 appearances primarily from midfield this season.
His potential has alerted a number of Premier League sides, including Arsenal, Chelsea and City, who could have to stump up as much as £1.5 million for the League Two whiz.
“All the big clubs are looking at Nick Powell,” a source told Goal.com.
“There have been approaches from Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Manchester City. But they have been told he is not available.
“Crewe rate him in the seven figure category, even up to £1.5m but they don’t want to sell and Dario Gradi is adamant he won’t leave. Historically, he is very good at persuading young players to serve their apprenticeships before moving to the big clubs.”
The reputation of the Arsenal youth system, and the success of several youth team graduates such as Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere, makes a move to The Emirates Stadium a tempting proposition for Powell.
Alternatively, Chelsea, who themselves have seen John Terry progress through the ranks to captain the club to three Premier League title, would provide a solid base for the England youth international.
City however, with their enormous wealth, poses just one home grown player in their ranks, Micah Richards, and Powell may well worry when his first-team opportunities will come.
Steve Davis' Crewe are currently within just three points of the play-off positions in League Two with six games remaining.
