Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has apologised for the actions in the weekend defeat to Arsenal that led to Roberto Mancini claiming that the Italian would be sold at the end of the season.

Balotelli was at his temperamental worst as City were beaten 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium, and was sent off in the closing stages for a second bookable offence.

The 21-year-old could also face further sanction from the Football Association after a horrendous challenge on Alex Song went unpunished during the first-half.

Sunday's red card was effectively Balotelli's third of the season, and the manner in which it happened prompted Mancini to say he would 'probably' sell the young forward.

Balotelli, though, has attempted to rebuild bridges with his manager and with City fans by saying sorry for his conduct in north London at the weekend.

The Italy international also hopes to speak with the club in order to clear the air and, perhaps, halt any potential summer sale.

"At the end of the season I will speak with the club and we'll see," Balotelli said in a statement provided by his agent to Italian news agency Ansa.

"I'm very sorry for what happened and for the disappointment caused to City."
