Manchester United are ready to join Chelsea and Arsenal in the £3million chase for highly rated Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 19-year-old is currently earning rave reviews on loan at League Two promotion-chasers Cheltenham Town, but is tipped for a move to one of the Premier League's elite this summer.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson sent goalkeeping coach Eric Steele to make a personal check on the England U21 international stopper at the weekend, with a view to bringing him to Old Trafford in June.
However, Arsenal have also watched Butland regularly this season, as Arsene Wenger attempts to strengthen his options at the Emirates Stadium.
Wojciech Szczesny is the Gunners' current first-choice stopper, but with question marks hanging over the futures of both Manuel Almunia and Lukas Fabianski, the French tactician could move for the talented youngster.
In the absence of a permanent manager, Chelsea have fallen down the pecking order in the chase for Butland, but Blues owner Roman Abramovich may still try to lure the player to Stamford Bridge with a lucrative contract offer.
