Napoli midfielder Christian Maggio will not be joining Chelsea this summer, according to his agent.

The 30-year-old has been in impressive form for the Naples outfit this season; and was one of the stars of Napoli's Champions League campaign.

Maggio featured during both legs of the last 16 tie with Chelsea and, although Napoli were defeated on aggregate, the performances of a number of their players did not go unnoticed.

According to talkSPORT, Stamford Bridge had been a potential destination for the Italian, but it would appear Chelsea will struggle to forge any deal for his signature.

"Chelsea interested in Maggio? There is no news there," his agent Massimo Briaschi told Tuttomercatoweb.

"Christian extended his contract at Napoli until 2017 and that says it all. There is, and there won't be, any news on this.

"It is clear that Christian wants to stay here, maybe until the end of his career. If he didn't, he would have tried to run down his contract with Napoli."

Missing out on Maggio is unlikely to be seen a particular blow in Chelsea's pursuit of reinforcements, with Roman Abramovich retaining grander plans for the summer transfer window.

The Chelsea only will reportedly arm his new manager with a significant transfer kitty in order to set about transforming the Blues into Premier League title challengers once more.
