Reading manager Brian McDermott lauded his players after an "incredible night" in which his side edged ever closer to the Barclays Premier League at promotion rivals Southampton.

The Royals went top of the npower Championship at the expense of the hosts after Adam Le Fondre came off the bench to fire his side to a 3-1 victory at St Mary's.

"I thought tonight was an incredible night," boss McDermott said. "They are a good side Southampton, especially at this place. They don't lose too many games here."
