Edin Dzeko has called upon Manchester City to ensure they secure the services of Luka Modric at the end of the season – with the City striker saying he would ‘love’ the 26-year-old to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium.
Last month Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini revealed his admiration for the Spurs midfielder, before admitting it would be ‘difficult’ to secure his services over the summer.
Spurs have seen their season stutter badly of late, with their FA Cup hopes going up in smoke over the weekend with defeat against Chelsea, which came after a woeful run in the league which threatens their top four hopes.
If Harry Redknapp’s side were to miss out on qualification for the Champions League they may have to face up to the prospect of losing leading lights such as Modric and Gareth Bale, and Dzeko wants his side to be the first in line should Modric depart White Hart Lane.
Yes, everyone is after him but I would love it if he came to City. He would be a great addition,” he told The Sun.
“Besides that, he would have everything at City — Champions League, fighting for the title, great wages.
“I am cheering for him to choose City."
Dzeko’s own future is far from certain however, with the ex-Wolfsburg striker linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
The Bosnian forward has seen his chances at City become few and far between, while he has now fallen further down the pecking order in Mancini’s thoughts with the return of Carlos Tevez recently.
Some reports had suggested he could be ready to switch the Etihad Stadium for the Bernebeu with Gonzalo Higuain heading in the opposite direction, while he has also been linked with a return to Germany.
