Andre Santos wants Arsenal to end the season well and hopes the club can compete for the Premier League title next year.

Arsene Wenger's side currently occupy third place, three points ahead of Newcastle, having played a game more.

The Brazilian has identified Champions League qualification as essential for the Gunners this term, and has called on his teammates to finish the 2011-12 campaign strongly to guarantee they qualify for next season's competition.

Santos, who joined Arsenal from Fenerbahce for €7million in August, wants his side to mount a title challenge next season, and put an end to their seven-year trophy drought.

"We need to qualify for next year's Champions League. We need to finish well and carry on next year to compete for the title.

"This is a big club and deserves better. All we want are trophies."

Santos came off the bench on Saturday in the stalemate against Chelsea, and he was pleased with the team's commitment and fight that was on display during the London derby.

However, he has urged the players not to rest on their laurels and push on during the final games of the season.

"When it comes to a derby I think it was a good result - Chelsea are not an easy team to beat, they have excellent players," he said.

"I congratulate our squad for their fight and now we need to work hard to carry on winning."
