Four-goal Wigan boost survival hopes

Victor Moses fired two goals in two first-half minutes as Wigan took a huge stride towards Barclays Premier League survival by blowing away UEFA Champions League hopefuls Newcastle 4-0 at the DW Stadium.

Moses headed a 12th-minute opener and fired a low second past Tim Krul less than two minutes later before further goals from Shaun Maloney and Franco Di Santo wrapped up a stunning first half for the hosts.

The visitors had barely mustered a shot on target in the first period but rallied in the second with Papiss Cisse twice striking the woodwork while at the other end only the brilliance of Krul denied Moses a hat-trick.
