Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is ready to battle Liverpool for the summer signing of AZ Alkmaar midfielder Rasmus Elm, according to the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old Swedish international has been heavily linked with a move away from Holland this summer, with a host of European clubs credited with an interest in the £7million rated star.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is a long-standing admirer of the Scandinavian, and hopes to bring him to Anfield at the end of the current season, but will now face competition from the Magpies.
With 15 goals in 59 appearances for AZ, Elm is regarded as one of the brightest talents in the Eredivisie at the moment, and would be a welcome addition to both Liverpool and Newcastle squads.
Pardew flew to Holland to watch the Swede in action against Feyenoord at the weekend, but was disappointed to see that Elm was missing after recently becoming a father.
