Arsenal close to landing M’Vila

Arsenal are closing in on the €22million signing of the highly rated Yann M’Vila – a new transfer fee record for the Gunners.

The 21-year-old is expected to move to Emirates Stadium this summer and a report in the Metro claims the deal has been provisionally agreed between Arsenal and Rennes.

The report also suggests that manager Arsene Wenger had prioritised more cover in the holding midfield position, in a bid to help provide support for the current incumbent Alex Song.

Song has been in impressive form this season but Wenger’s team have been criticised for a lack of midfield cover in front of their defence, with the Cameroonian the only current experienced member of the team who is comfortable doing so.

The report says France international M’Vila chose a move to north London over an offer from Serie A side Inter Milan.

With the signing expected to be finalised once the season has concluded this weekend and Song’s contact negotiations ongoing, speculation over the Cameroon international's future will likely heighten.
