Former Liverpool striker Jari Litmanen has backed Luis Suarez to become an all-time Liverpool great.
Suarez, who wears the iconic number seven shirt, has endeared himself to Liverpool fans since his move to Anfield last year, with the Uruguyan striker bagging 17 goals in his first full season in England to become the club's leading scorer this term.
The 25-year-old struck a remarkable hat-trick against Norwich earlier this month, while his excellent performance against Chelsea helped the Reds gain a modicum of revenge for their FA Cup defeat against Roberto di Matteo’s side as they ran out 4-1 winners at Anfield on Tuesday.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing for Suarez however, with the former Ajax forward missing eight games through suspension after he was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra.
With Liverpool’s tumultuous season coming to an end on Sunday, Litmanen believes Suarez can help carry the Reds to greater things next season and beyond.
"It's difficult to compare different players from different times," Litmanen told Liverpoolfc.tv. "Of course, Kenny [Dalglish] and Kevin [Keegan] played in great teams that won a lot of trophies.
"You become a legend if you win things and you are in big teams.
"Time will tell what kind of results Liverpool will get in the coming years, but we all already know Suarez is a great player."
