United set to miss out on Dutchman

AC Milan are now leading the race to sign Manchester United target Kevin Strootman, with the PSV Eindhoven midfielder reportedly set for talks with the Italian giants.

The 22-year-old Holland international is in demand following an impressive season for PSV and, it would appear, his time with the Dutch club could end this summer.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with Strootman as he makes plans to reinforce his Old Trafford midfield during the summer transfer window.

But, according to talkSPORT, Milan are now frontrunners to sign him, and Strootman is set for imminent talks with Max Allegri to discuss a potential move to the San Siro.

Milan have already bolstered their midfield with the acquisitions of Riccardo Montolivo and Bakaye Traore, but Allegri is still after further reinforcements.

United, meanwhile, have already been boosted by Paul Scholes' decision to extend his stay with the club by another season, although Ferguson may yet look to make further signings.
