Manchester United are planning a £3million move for Rayo Vallecano midfielder and reported Liverpool target, Michu, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old has attracted attention from a host of top European clubs after netting an impressive 17 goals in 39 games this season, finishing the 2011-12 campaign as the highest scoring midfielder in Spain.

Red Devils scouts have watched Michu on a number of occasions this year, and have fed back positive reports to Sir Alex Ferguson. A move to Old Trafford looks increasingly likely when you consider Rayo's financial problems, meaning the player is available for significantly less than his original £8million asking price.

London based agents DBW, who represent the former Real Oviedo and Celta Vigo star, revealed that in addition to Manchester United, they have also spoken with several other English clubs, including Liverpool, about Michu's future.

However, following the recent sacking of Kenny Dalglish, Anfield owners Fenway Sports Group are desperately searching for a long-term successor, so any prospective transfer targets will be placed on hold until after a managerial appointment has been made.
