Sir Alex Ferguson risks being priced out of a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, reports the Daily Express.

The 23-year-old Polish international has been watched by Manchester United scouts on numerous occasions this season, but the Premier League club are far from agreeing a deal.

The Red Devils want to use want-away striker Dimitar Berbatov as a makeweight in the deal to bring the £18million rated forward to Old Trafford this summer, before Lewandowski heads off to play in Euro 2012.

Ferguson is keen to secure the players signature prior to the major finals in Poland and Ukraine, due to the risk of Lewandowski's valuation soaring off the back of an impressive showing in the tournament.

After helping Dortmund to the Bundesliga title, Lewandowski also netted a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the German Cup final.

The United boss was in attendance, and it is believed that his performance that night has convinced Ferguson to step up his attempts to bring him to the Premier League ahead of the new season.
